A big 'thank you' to those that helped with Santa letters
Email Print
This week I want to start off by giving the Kindergarten through third grade teachers at Park, Hilltop and St. Anne’s a HUGE thank you for helping us again with having their students write their letters to Santa.

Also, thank you to all the parents who dropped or emailed letters to our office.

The Holiday Greetings supplement will appear in the Dec. 23 News-Herald. Be sure to pick up a copy (or two or three) to keep as a keepsake.

This supplement would not be possible without the help from the teachers and from the generous support from our local businesses.

Please take some time while you are reading the letters to look at the special holiday greetings chosen by these businesses.

Their support of the paper is appreciated all year round.

While I was typing the letters to Santa this year there were a few times I laughed out loud because the honesty of children is so precious.

There are a couple letters where the child revealed what one parent was getting for the other parent.

There were other letters that brought tears to my eyes because the honesty of children – and how much they really know – is so precious.

Some children did not ask for anything for themselves but for their brothers and sisters or their parents.

Another thing I saw is how well the Character Counts program at the schools is working.

I am not sure if it was suggested to the children to mention which character trait they are “working on” but in the majority of the letters the students did mention how they are working on being more responsible and trustworthy.

This good to see and shows that all the efforts the staff – and the students – are putting into the program are really paying off.
