Liberal democrats can’t seem to understand why millions of people across the nation are rising up against them. What just happened in Massachusetts is an example of what’s making us so angry! In 2004, Ted Kennedy got the Massachusetts legislature to change the law so Republican governor Mitt Romney could not name a replacement for John Kerry should he give up his senate seat. Last week the Massachusetts legislature again changed the law, reversing what they had passed less than five years ago, so that the democrat governor can appoint Kennedy’s successor. They even ignored the fact that a new law in Massachusetts does not go into effect for three months. This is dirty politics as its worst!! They did it so that they can have the 60 votes necessary to force us to give up the freedom to make our own health care decisions. There are many threatening provisions in the health care reform proposals! It’s important that we read them and not just believe what we’re being told.
There are 11 changes which are not in the proposals which could be made with very little expense which would drastically lower health care / insurance costs, with no threat to our care. A few intelligent people with an ounce of common sense should be able to draft this in less than 10 pages:
1.Ban drug advertising -- billions spent annually.
2.Tort reform – billions spent annually on malpractice insurance and tests and procedures to “protect against lawsuits”.
3.We should be able to enter long-term health insurance contracts that would change only at our request.
4.Health care providers post their fees so we can do comparison shopping.
5.Allow us to shop across state lines for health insurance.
6.Provide tax incentives for doctors and hospitals that provide care at little or no cost to the poor. Under current law, they’re penalized for this!
7.Pre-tax health spending accounts for everyone.
8.Allow tax deductions for health insurance premiums.
9.Less government control over prescriptions.
10. De-fund Planned Parenthood - - saving over $350 million annually which could help fund above proposals.
11. Fix Medicare - - much incompetence and waste!
A letter outlining these proposals is going to all US senators and several representatives and committee members. If you would like to add your name to the letter you may call me at 507/665-3080.
