Health care debate continues
Email Print
We at a cross roads with regard to health care. Minnesota has a strong tradition of world class health care, with the original Minnesota practice of the Mayo family located in Le Sueur. People come from across the world to receive treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. But as I talk to people in Le Sueur County, many struggle with the rising costs of care and worry about their future ability to get care.
When discussing health care, we must recall that the government has a large role in the current system. Regulations restrict which medical plans Minnesotans can purchase and mandate people purchase coverage they do not need, leading to the situation where a 60 year old man may be forced to buy maternity coverage.
The President and the incumbent senator in Minnesota Senate District 25 want to further expand government control. The S.D. 25 incumbent wants to establish a “single payer” plan, where the government becomes the sole provider of medical coverage. Inevitably under such a system, government bureaucrats will decide your medical benefits and make life and death decisions regarding medical care.
Rather than a government takeover, we need to expand individual control over medical decisions. We need to remove regulations that restrict competition among providers and enable patients to select the medical plan that best fits their needs. There must be more transparency in the pricing of medical care so that patients can shop for the best care. People must be enabled to save for their heath care needs so they are in control of their health care decisions.
Working together we can build on Minnesota’s legacy of world class care, expanding access to care and stop a complete government takeover of the health care system.

Sincerely,

Bill Paulsen
Candidate,
Minnesota Senate
District 25
Lonsdale
