Impaired driver takes a fall at the mall

A Le Sueur man with a revoked driver’s license chose a poor place to park on Feb. 3 and was subsequently arrested.

According to a police report filed at the Le Sueur County courthouse, at approximately 6:55 p.m. the Le Sueur Police Department responded to a suspicious vehicle report at Valleygreen Square mall.

The caller reported a silver vehicle parked in front of the hardware store looked overheated and the driver of the vehicle was slumped down in the driver’s seat.

Officers located the vehicle and identified the driver as Stantley Curtis Lang, age 50. An odor of alcohol was detected inside the vehicle and Lang admitted he had been drinking.

After a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .175, Lang was arrested and taken to the Le Sueur County jail.

Records showed Lang had a previous DWI conviction in 2006 and his driver’s license had been revoked.

On Feb. 9 Lang pled guilty to third degree driving while impaired. he was fined $580 and sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for time served. He was placed on two years probation, ordered to complete a chemical dependency assessment and attend a MADD panel.

• Ashley Louellen Brumm, age 27 of New Prague, is scheduled to appear in district court on March 9 on a felony theft charge. Earlier this month the New Prague Police Department was informed an internal investigation by Coborn’s Store in New Prague revealed Brumm had stolen $1,550 between May 2008 and December 2009. Brumm was an employee of the store during that time.

Coborn officials stated their bookkeeper noticed several large cash shortages from Brumm’s till.

Surveillance video showed at the end of Brumm’s shift Brumm concealed cash in her jacket sleeves while placing money in the store’s safe.

Store authorities confronted Brumm who admitted taking the money to help pay her medical bills.

Brumm’s charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.

• On Feb. 4 at approximately 10:28 p.m. a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy traveling north on County Road 15 observed an on-coming car in his lane of traffic. According to the deputy’s report, the road was covered with ice and snow.

The deputy pulled over to the shoulder of the road to avoid colliding with the suspect vehicle. He turned around and followed the vehicle. Another on-coming vehicle also pulled over to the side to avoid a collision. The suspect vehicle turned onto County Road 18 and the deputy initiated a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tammy Sue Petri, age 40 of Cleveland. The deputy detected an odor of alcohol on Petri’s breath. Petri admitted she had been drinking. After failing field sobriety tests, Petri submitted to a preliminary breath test which showed a reading of .225.

Petri was transported to the Le Sueur County jail where she was charged with fourth degree driving while impaired and released to a sober adult. A court date has been scheduled for Feb. 24.
