Push is on to restock the food shelves

The push is on to restock the food shelves in March.

Each year, donations of food and money are important throughout the months.

However, March is always the time to really ramp it up.

Your donations of food and money will be matched in March. That’s the huge incentive to give now. Minnesota FoodShare directs the largest food drive in the state (known as the March Campaign) and restocks more than 260 food shelves across Minnesota. It recruits thousands of congregations, corporations, schools and civic groups to run local food and fund drives to aid in the effort.

The need is great. Economics times are tight for so many.

Picture a family whose mom or dad or both is out of work. They know they need to heat their homes and pay for other utilities.

The family has to put gas in the car and buy school supplies.

The family buys no new clothes, can’t afford restaurants or movies and can’t splurge on pizza deliveries for special occasions.

When they go to the grocery store, they shop the clearance racks and “reduced for quick sale” bins. They don’t buy anything that is not on sale. Their carts contain mostly generic items.

And they need to make their food supplies last as long as possible. If you hate the idea of children going to bed hungry, give to the food shelf in March when you gift has the greatest impact.
