Boys look to subsection basketball action March 9 On the tail end of a rough regular season, the Le Sueur-Henderson boys basketball team is getting ready to turn its sights to the second season – the subsection playoffs. Seedings for the tournament have not been released, but the Giants did not do themselves any favors in seeding as they dropped two conference games last week.

Girls Sub-section 2AA basketball Friday night LSH defeated Montgomery-Lonsdale Tuesday night 65-34 to advance in the sub-section 2AA girls basketball tournament. The Giants will host Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial on Friday at 7 p.m. at the LSH middle/high school gym.

Giants tumble to LCWM, prepare for individuals The Giant wrestling team cruised to a semifinal spot after a blowout win against Norwood-Young America on Thursday evening in the Section 4A team tournament. | Boys notch another MRC win at Montgomery-Lonsdale Le Sueur-Henderson’s boys basketball team earned a little redemption on Feb. 18 when they edged Montgomery-Lonsdale 70-64. In the first meeting of the two teams back in December, free throws made the difference when the Redbirds came away with a win. Last Thursday, free throws again played a big part in the outcome, but this time it was the Giants who iced the game at the charity stripe. Paul M. Malchow |
Girls basketball brackets released The Le Sueur-Henderson girls basketball team is seeded first in the Section 2AA, North Subsection tournament. The Giants will host the winner of No. 8 Kenyon-Wannimingo and Montgomery-Lonsdale at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.

Wrestlers head into post season It wasn’t quite the way the Giant wrestling team hoped to wrap up their regular season with two losses against Waseca and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown last Thursday. Catch of the day: 5 small perch in fishing contest Just five fish, all small perch, was the catch of the day throughout the annual German-Jefferson Sportsmen Club’s ice fishing contest, held on West Lake Jefferson on Sunday. Lady Bulldogs knock down Windom wall 10-3 Windom Area goalie Brooklyn Drahota is not invincible after all. The senior leads the state in saves with 1,020 and foiled the St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson/Montgomery-Lonsdale Bulldogs by stopping 72 shots and finishing with a 2-2 tie in their first meeting.

Giants suffer losses on two home courts Playing conference powerhouses at two different schools made little difference in the outcome as the Le Sueur-Henderson boys basketball team suffered similar losses last week. On Jan. 26 the Giants hosted Sibley East at Le Sueur-Henderson High School and were upended 73-41. Play returned to the Hilltop Elementary gym on Jan. 29 when LS-H faced Mayer Lutheran. Boys nip NYA for first conference win After a tough overtime loss to St. Peter earlier in the week, the Le Sueur-Henderson boys basketball team regrouped to earn its first conference win of the season over Norwood-Young America. The Giants’ 61-59 road win over NYA renewed Coach Robert Steiger’s hopes that his team is turning the corner. “This (win) could not have come at a better time,” Steiger said after the game, “with the next two games against Sibley East and Mayer Lutheran.” Paul M.
