MANKATO — No. 6 seeded Mankato West eliminated No. 11 St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson/Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center in the first round of the Section 1A boys hockey playoffs last week at All Seasons Arena.
The Scarlets jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first period and increased it to 7-0 in the second and 9-0 in the third before the Bulldogs finally scored with 4:03 left.
Sophomore Jack Swanberg scored unassisted to finish with a team-leading 17 goals and 22 points.
West out shot the Bulldogs 48-20. Chris Swanberg made 39 saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Scarlets goalie Jake Kaufman stopped 19 shots.
No. 3 seeded New Prague (16-7-2) eliminated Mankato West (10-14) in the second round, quarterfinals 3-1 on Thursday.
